Breast Augmentation Houston

Why Breast Augmentation?

  • Breast enlargement may be of interest to you if you feel that having smaller breasts limits what fashions you can wear and have difficulty finding proportional clothing to flatter your figure.
  • You believe that having a small breast size creates a negative impression and they make you feel uncomfortably self-conscious.
  • You have lost an excessive amount of weight and consequently your breasts have lost size and shape.
  • Your breasts are sagging and have lost firmness, and you need augmentation as part of a breast lift procedure
  • Your pregnancy has changed your breast volume and shape.
  • You have significantly asymmetric breasts and seek balance.

Generally, you must be fully developed, physically and emotionally healthy, and have realistic expectations of your surgery.

Houston Breast Augmentation

Your Initial Breast Enlargement Surgery Consultation

During your initial breast augmentation consultation, you will meet with Dr. Steely and his staff to discuss your goals. They will review your medical history and discuss your goals you hope to obtain with surgery.   Dr. Steely will examine your breasts and evaluate their size and shape and the elasticity of the skin. Based on his findings and your goals, he will determine which surgical technique will benefit you the most. Also, Dr. Steely will review the risks associated with breast enhancement surgery and address your expectations. Of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have at this time.

Silicone Implants or Saline Breast Implants?

Many doctors and patients under appreciate the importance of picking an appropriate breast implant size and shape to best suit their body. Many patients feel that because their friend has a silicone or saline breast implant of a certain size, that if she gets the same implant, she will have the same breasts. Nothing could be further from the truth. Choosing an implant that best suits your body size, shape, breast tissue shape and elasticity, as well as the distance between your breasts are highly individualized and need to be examined on a case by case basis. Choosing an implant that is too big for your breast dimensions obviously has problems, but choosing an implant that is too small in many patients has its own set of problems. Even with the same size and shape, silicone breast implants and saline breast implants have subtle differences that can influence your final breast shape. Through careful measurements and analysis, Dr. Steely and his staff are experts in delineating the right implant size and shape for you to give you the best, most long lasting result.

Size and Shape of Breast Implants?

Picking the right size and shape breast implant is critical to giving you a great long term result.  Breast implants come in three basic “profiles” or projections that differ in the amount of implant dedicated to giving you fullness outward versus fullness side to side.  Pictured below are all 275cc silicone implants- they are all the same volume or size.  What differs is the shape, or how the material is distributed.

The top implant is the “high profile” implant- where more of the silicone breast implant material is concentrated into pointing outward from your chest wall, while the implant at the bottom of the tower is the “moderate profile” breast implant, where more of the material is dedicated to filling your breast tissue laterally.  The middle implant is the “moderate profile plus” implant that does a little of both.  Dr. Steely feels that part of his great success with breast augmentation surgery in Houston has been taking great care in picking the appropriate shape as well as size breast implant that coordinates with the patients breast tissue characteristics as well as the patients height, weight, and chest wall dimensions.  You will have a minimum of two visits with Dr. Steely before surgery to determine the best breast implant to suit your needs.

Preparing for Breast Enlargement Surgery

Dr. Steely will provide you with instructions in preparation for breast enhancement surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medication. Dr. Steely may recommend a mammogram. After surgery, make sure you have prearranged for help and care.

As with any procedure, a consultation and preoperative examination will determine a more accurate quote of the cost.

All inclusive Breast Augmentation surgery pricing begins at $5,300 dollars*.

During Breast Augmentation Surgery

During breast enhancement surgery, you will be put to sleep by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. Dr. Steely will make small incisions to allow entry for the breast implants. The implants are placed either partially under the pectoral muscle or on top of the muscle and under the breast glands, depending on the thickness of your tissue and its ability to adequately cover the implant. The breast enhancement procedure usually takes about 40 minutes. Dr. Steely places a special long acting local anesthesia into your tissue while you are asleep to minimize any discomfort after surgery.  You will awake wearing a sports bra with a small piece of tape where your incision has been placed.  There are no drain tubes or bulky wrappings needed.  You may take a shower the following morning.  Most patients choose to go home the same day as surgery, and many patients return to work in 48 hours.  Most patients only take pain medication for the first 24 to 36 hours, then do well with scheduled doses of Tylenol.

After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Immediately after your breast augmentation, you should have someone at home with you. You will feel tired and a little sore for a few days. Most discomfort can be managed by medication prescribed by Dr. Steely. You will have a postoperative visit with Dr. Steely within a few days of your procedure. Within one week, you should be able to engage in non-strenuous activities and within several weeks, return to exercising. Swelling should subside after a few weeks and your final results will be evident. After a few months, scars with begin to fade to a very fine line.

Dr. Steely will keep you informed and as comfortable as possible at every step of your breast augmentation, from consultation to the final new you.

Breast Implants/Breast Augmentation FAQ

Who Actually Does my Surgery- Does Dr. Steely use any Assistants?

Dr. Steely and only Dr. Steely performs all aspects of your procedure. He does not use any surgical assistants, residents, or medical students. No one is “practicing” or “learning” on your breasts.
Does Breast Implant Surgery Hurt?

You will be completely asleep during the breast implant surgery.  Dr. Steely places a special long acting anesthesia in your tissues while you are asleep to keep postoperative discomfort to a minimum. The overwhelming majority of our patients only take pain medication for the first 24 to 36 hours, and return to work after a couple of days.
How Long Does Breast Implant Surgery Take?

The actual procedure time is only about 35 to 40 minutes, but you will be at the facility for a couple of hours.
Where in Houston will I Have my Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Dr. Steely performs breast implant surgery both in his office in a fully accredited operating suite as well as in a hospital facility.  Your personal preference as well as the day you wish to have your procedure dictates where it will be performed.
Do Breast Implants Last Forever?

It is important to realize that breast implants are NOT lifetime devices.  Current recommendations are to have an exchange of your breast implants or removal of your breast implants every ten or so years.
I Love the Look of the Breast Implants I Saw on a Woman at the Gym.  She Said she had 350cc Silicone Profile Plus Implants.  I Want to Look Just Like Her- So is that the Size Breast Implant I Should Get?

There are many factors that need to be taken into account when choosing a breast implant. Different women with the same size implant can look vastly different.   Dr. Steely will take detailed measurements to help you choose an appropriately sized and shaped implant for your body and the look you are trying to achieve. While it is possible to mimic another person’s overall breast shape and size, it is very likely that a different size and shape implant is necessary.
How Can I Optimize my Postoperative Recovery after Breast Implant Surgery?

The best way to get you feeling well quickly after breast augmentation surgery is to take good care of yourself before your surgery.  It is important not to take any medication that can thin your blood and lead to increased bruising such as aspirin, Advil, Alleve, and Motrin.  It is also important to refrain from any alcohol consumption for at least 5 days before surgery.  It is also best to refrain from smoking for at least a week before surgery.  A more comprehensive list will be given to you at your initial consultation with Dr. Steely.
Why Should I Pick Dr. Steely as my Breast Augmentation Surgeon in Houston?

There are many physicians performing breast augmentation surgery in Houston, including many without any formal training in plastic surgery or even general surgery.  Breast implants are simply a medical device and unfortunately anyone with a medical degree can purchase them, rent a billboard and call themselves  a  ”Cosmetic Surgeon”.  There are NO regulations in Texas keeping ANYONE with a Medical Degree from calling themselves a cosmetic surgeon.  The best way to insure that you are being treated by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is to check if they are certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.  This is the ONLY governing body recognized by hospitals that allow surgeons to perform these procedures in a hospital.  If the surgeon you are considering is NOT on this web page, they are NOT a formally trained plastic surgeon.

Plastic surgery itself is a wide field, and many sub specialize within this field.  The above web page is a great first test, but to insure that you are using a surgeon who is not only a true board certified plastic surgeon, but one that specializes in the cosmetic side of plastic surgery, they should also be listed here at The  American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
