Dr. Steely performs neck lift surgery (platysmaplasty) to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the neck for a smoother look. He also tightens neck muscles to redefine the jaw line, restore a normal chin and create a younger, fitter looking facial appearance. A neck lift is often combined with a face lift, brow lift, eyelid surgery and/or liposuction surgery for a totally proportional aesthetic solution.

Many males would like very much to remove the hanging skin below their chin – the so called “turkey neck” – and do not wish to undergo a full neck lift. For these patients, Dr. Steely uses a special procedure called the T-Z-plasty (see below) which has a high rate of satisfaction among patients who have it performed.

The Neck Lift Procedure When he performs a neck lift in combination with both a face lift and eyelid surgery, Dr. Steely makes an incision under the chin or through minimal incisions hidden behind the ears. When the neck lift is done at the same time as a face lift only, Dr. Steely lifts and re-drapes the skin over the tightened neck muscles.

After your neck lift procedure:
■ Your recovery period will depend on what other procedures you have had in combination with the neck lift.
■ You may experience temporary swelling, pain, bruising, soreness and fatigue. Dr. Steely may prescribe medication for any discomfort you may feel.
■ You are advised to keep your head still and avoid turning or twisting for two to five days after surgery.
■ It is also a good idea to avoid exercise or strenuous activity for four to six weeks.
